James’ Idea for v/o [Sc: 7]
There isn’t much kindness shown to people like me. People pass by living their easy lives that seem so harsh; but of course they could be a lot worse. There’s a lot said about the homeless, and I’ve heard it all before. After a while you begin to believe what they say. It might seem ridiculous to some, but the homeless are people too; and we have feelings. You know that’s probably what hurts the most: the ignorance everyone shares, living in their ‘perfect worlds’.
I know life isn’t fair and usually there’s no happy ending, but I mean not all of us are bad people. And most of us didn’t do anything to deserve a life on the street! Sometimes people are in the wrong place at the wrong time; it’s scary to know that it can happen to anyone. And it’s sad that most people don’t want to help – or don’t want to acknowledge the problem. But every once in a while someone might surprise you.
You know living on the streets makes you appreciate the simple things you used to have; wearing proper shoes, not having to worry about food, having a warm bed at night – especially in the rain. And people; people being there for you. And it’s hard dealing with all this. But you can’t argue with the universe. As much as we think we have control of our lives, the universe can take it away like that.
